Bageshwar is a religious town and is a very important pilgrim center of the Kumaon Himalayas. It is located on the confluence of rivers Gomati and Saryu.

Pilgrims and tourists alike visit Bageshwar. In divinity and religion Bageshwar is often equated with Varanasi which is one of the holiest towns of India. Bageshwar is located in the trek routes of Sunderdhunga, Pindari, and Kafni Glaciers; this makes it an important base for these treks.
