Chakrata
is a hill locked town and is situated on the hills of Chakrata & Kalina. British army
officers created this town 115 years ago. Colonel Hume of the 55th Regiment came here to explore the
possibilities of converting the area into a military cantonment. The wildlife in the area
is worth a look, with animals ranging from Wild Fowl to Panther and from Spotted Deer to
Wild Bear. There are fifty thousand tribals residing in the suburbs and the Jungles of
Chakrata. These tribals are considered to be the descendants from the Aryan hordes who
invaded the Indus Valley in the early ages. Situated at a distance of 92 Kms. from Dehra
Dun.
