The Hemkund Sahib is
situated near the Valley of flowers. The holy lake Hemkund is associated with the10th
Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh, the founder of the Khalsa (meaning 'the pure') Panth. It is
believed that the guru had meditated on the banks of this holy lake in one of his earlier
births. A Sikh Gurdwara is
located on the banks of this lake. This is a very holy pilgrim spot of the Sikhs.
A Lakshman temple is also situated here. Lakshman, the younger brother of Shri Ram, meditated by the lake and regained his health after being severely wounded by Meghnath, the son of Ravana (king of Sri Lanka) during battle. The Hemkund Sahib was discovered by Sikh havaldar 'Solan Singh'. The glaciers of the Hathi Parvat and the Sapt Rishi peak feed the serene and crystal clear waters of the lake.
