Rishikesh, commonly known as the "Place of Sages", is an ideal destination not only for pilgrims but also for those who want to explore deeper into Meditation. Rishikesh is the starting point for the ' Char Dham' pilgrimage of the Hindus in which pilgrims go to the four Dhams- Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath to seek spiritual salvation. Rishikesh is one of the most spiritual and holy towns of the Hindus. It is situated on the banks of the Holy River Ganga and the Shivalik ranges of the Himalayas surround it on the three sides. As per the Vedas (Holy book of the Hindus) when Raibhaya Rishi did hard penance, God appeared by the name of "Hrishikesh" and this area henceforth came to be known as Rishikesh.

Rishikesh is the spiritual heaven of the various Ashrams and is situated on the eastern side of the Holy Ganga, at Swarg Ashram. The Ashrams provide lectures and courses to fulfil everyone's needs and Quench the thirst of Knowledge and peace.

Rishikesh is very important from the religious point of view, the " Kailash Temple"(which is the 13-storey temple situated here near the ' Laxman Jhoola'.' Laxman Jhoola' and the ' Ram Jhoola' are the major attractions for the pilgrims visiting Rishikesh. These are the bridges, which are suspended over the River Ganga without any support and because of which they keep swaying. This is why the name ' Jhoola' has been given to these bridges. Rishikesh is also the place for the adventurous visitors. Rishikesh is the starting point for the trekking expeditions and the excursions towards the Himalayan peaks. White water rafting and river rafting are also very popular here. Rishikesh also hosts the International Yoga Week, which is held here every year from 2nd to 7th February.

Rishikesh has been called the Gateway to the Kingdom of Gods since it is the starting point for all the pilgrimages in this region.
