Yamunotri is the first stopover for the "Char Dham" pilgrimage. Here lies the Yamunotri Temple, which is dedicated to the Goddess Yamuna. The shrine attracts large number of pilgrims from May to October. Yamunotri is the source of the holy river Yamuna that originates from the Champasar Glacier lying 1 km ahead of the shrine. The Champasar Glacier is at a height of 4421 Mts. There are hot water springs near temple in which rice and potatoes are cooked and are treated as 'PRASAD' (Holy Food). Mountains on all sides flank Yamunotri and the scenic beauty of the place are enough to mesmerize a person. Yamunotri is situated opposite to Gangotri.

Temple of Goddess Yamuna
The main Temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Maharani Gularia of Jaipur built the present temple in the 19th century. It was destroyed twice in the present century and rebuilt again. The Temple remains closed from November to May.

Surya Kund
There are number of thermal springs in the vicinity of the temple which flow into numerous pools. The most important of these is Surya Kund known for its very high temperature of 1900 ft Pilgrims cook rice and potatoes here to offer to the deity in the temple.

29 kms from Barkot is scenic spot on the banks of river Yamuna.

The thermal springs are here where tourists can enjoy a refreshing bath.

Hanumanchatti
The confluence of Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers, from where the trek to Dodi Tal (3,307 Mts.) starts.

Bus HANUMANCHATTI, the roadhead for Yamunotri is connected by bus services of Samyukt Rotation Yatayat Vyavastha Samiti to Rishikesh, Haridwar and other major centres in the region.
Stay Only Dharamshala are available at Yamunotri. Alternative accommodation available.
