Ponmudi is a small hill station in the southern part of Kerala. Located in the Western Ghats at an altitude of 1,000m, it is the nearest hill station to Thiruvananthapuram- just 61km, northeast of the capital city.

Places to see around Ponmudi are the NEYYAR DAM and the NEYYAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY. The Sanctuary has a lion park and a crocodile-breeding park. One can also hire boats to view deer and other wildlife on an island in the dam area. Besides one can visit the PEPPARA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY.

Is available at PONMUDI in the Government guesthouse. Prior booking is advisable.

ACCESSIBILITY

Six KSRTC (Kerala state road transport corporation) buses go daily to PONMUDI from the long –distance bus stand (THIRUVANANTHAPURAM). Change at NEDUMANGAD for a smaller bus, capable of negotiating the hairpin bends. The KTDC also arranges tours that include PONMUDI. Tourists can also hire buses.

MUKKUNI HILL

Ten km from Thiruvananthapuram is Mukkuni Hill. A rubber estate, it offers a quiet retreat from the heat and hustle and bustle of the capital city. Accommodation is limited and it is advisable to book in advance. Surrounded by forests, Mukkuni hill provides for a pleasant stay.
