Baleshwar Temple

The rulers of the Chand Dynasty had built this temple. A sanctuary 'Mandap' and intricate structural features were once the important features of this temple. This temple is the most beautiful and artistic in the whole district. Architectural evidence shows that this place once, had temples dedicated to Baleshwar, Ratneshwar and Champawat Durga.

The temple of Baleshwar is a clear pointer to the rich architectural and ancient glory of the region.

 

Gwal Devta

The Gwal Devta temples is dedicated 'Goril', a Katyuric prince of Champawat, who was known for his justice and fair play. Goril, unfortunately become a victim of a conspiracy hatched by his step mother, who threw him in to a river, locked in an iron cage. Since than, this temple stands here and it is believed that Gwal Devta helps the victims of injustice and cruelty, when approached. A large numbers of pilgrims visit this temple all through the year.

 

Abbot Mount

Abbot Mount is a beautiful place, which has many bungalows dating back to the British period. It is famous for its scenic beauty and the various bungalows.

This beautiful place is located at a distance of 11 kms from Lohaghat and stands tall at a height of 2001 Mts.

Kranteshwar Mahadev

This temple is also popularly known as Kulmapad and Kandev. This temple is located atop a hill to the east of Champawat and is temple is dedicated to Kranteshwar Mahadev. This temple is visited by a number of pilgrims and tourists.

Mayawati Ashram

The Mayawati Ashram is a good spiritual point. The Ashram has calm and serene surrounding, which make it the perfect point for mediation. This Ashram is basically a spiritualist point. Many spiritualists come here from India as well as abroad. It is located at a distance of 22 kms from Champawat and from Lohaghat, it is 9 kms far. This beautiful ashram is located at a height of 1940 Mts.

Vanasur-Ka-Killa

This is a fort, which was built by the king in the ancient times in this region. The fort commands an attractive view of the Kumaon Himalayas. From here the snow-covered peaks seem to be like a pearl necklace tied around the region.

The Vanasur-Ka Killa is located at a distance of 7 kms. From Lohaghat and 20 kms from Champawat. It is situated at an elevation of 1859 Mts.

Lohaghat

Lohaghat is a very important historical as well as a mythological center in the region. Many ancient stories are associated with this place. The river Lohawati flows past Lohaghat making a beautiful sight for the nature lovers. It is also a very popular excursion spot.

It is at a distance of 62 kms. from Pithoragarh and 14 kms from Champawat.
