Kashipur

Kashipur is a town limited in dimensions but unlimited in variety.It is a major industrial township in the Udham Singh Nagar district.

It is also an archaeological treasure because the ruins of a large settlement dating back to 606-614AD, which can be seen near the city. Not only this, Kashipur also houses of some well-known places like Girital and 'Drona Sagar'. The Chaiti Mela (fair) is a very well known fair, which is held here. Kashipur is a very good point for viewing the snow-clad peaks of Trishul and its surroundings, in autumn. So enthralling is the beauty of the place, that Poet Gumani has also written a poem on this town.

Around 606-613AD, Kashipur was known as Govishan when Harsha was the ruler here and when Hwen-Tsang had visited this region. 'Kashipur' name was given to this region in the middle age during the region of the Chand rulers. It is named after Kashinath Adhikari, who had at that time founded this township.

Atariya Temple

Goddess Atariya is worshipped here and many devotees visit this temple each year. A large fair, lasting for 10 days is held here on the occasion of 'Navratras'. Thousands of devotees come to seek the blessing of the goddess on this occasion. The temple of Goddess Ataria is located at a distance of 2Kms.from the bus stand and from the Rudrapur-Haldwani route, it is only half a kilometer away.

Giri Sarovar

'Sarovar' is the name for a beautiful lake in Hindu Mythology.The Giri sarovar seems to prove that it rightly deserves to be called so. It is an ideal picnic spot in the Kashipur sub division.

The Giri Sarovar is situated on the Kashipur-Ramnagar Route and is at distance of 2kns.from the Kashipur Bus Stand.

For night stay, Hotels and a Tourist Rest house is available in the region.

Chaiti Temple

The Chaiti Temple is a very famous temple in the region and 'Chaiti Devi is worshipped here. The Chaiti temple hosts the 'Chaiti fair' which is a very grand fair, held in the month of March during 'Navratras.'Lakhs of pilgrims come here during this period to worship the goddess and ask the goddess for her blessing in whatever they do.

This temple is on the Kashipur-Baijpur route and is at a distance of 2.5 kms from Kashipur Bus stand.

Forest Rest Houses, Tourist Rest Houses and Private hotels are available here for night stay.

Nanak Matta Dam

This is a big dam that has been constructed on river Saryu at Nanak Matta.

Nanak Matta is not only a dam but also a very beautiful picnic spot. The quite air and the still lake waters make a perfect mixture and one seems to drift slowly in the silence of the serene environ.

Boating and fishing can also be done at the lake. Boating facilities are available at the lake. The dam is situated 56 kms from Rudrapur.

Nanak Matta

Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru and also the founder of Sikh religion, had visited this place. It is because of this that Nanak Matta is a great centre of pilgrimage for the Sikhs. A beautiful Gurudwara is built here and the lake in front of the Gurudwara provides the place with an unparalleled serene touch.

Every year, thousand of Sikhs pilgrims visit this holy place.for stay at Nanak Matta, a Tourist Rest House is available. Pilgrims can also stay at the Gurudwara.

Nanak Matta is situated on Rudrapur-Tanakpur motor route and is situated at a distance of 56kms from Rudrapur. It is easily approachable by bus or train as regular services from Rudrapur.
