INDUSTRY
Pace of industrial progress in Orissa after independence has quickened by leaps and bounds. There are many large and medium scale industries in Orissa. In addition many cottage industries and handloom industries have spring up. Artisans based industries have provided employment to various artisans, just to preserve their art and skills. Orissa has made keen progress in the development of the electronic industry. Steps have been taken to develop Bhubaneshwar as an electronic "Software city". A super computer has already been installed.

In the far north of the state especially between. Keonjhar and Rourkela, there are enormous resources of high-grade iron ore. In addition, manganese, graphite and mica are found in Orissa, which are also exported.

IRRIGATION
Many irrigation projects have been undertaken to increase agricultural yields in this mainly agriculture-based state. For this, many hydroelectric projects have been set up like Hirakud powerhouse, Talcher thermal power station, thermal power station at Sambalpur district etc. Due to electrification of the villages, the government has dug pump-sets and tube wells.

RAILWAYS & ROADS
Orissa is well connected by road especially the main cities. Orissa's main cities are well connected by a vast network of railways. It consists of broad gauge and narrow gauge lines.
