This is a huge fort with its 5 km. of ramparts; it stands 300m above the city. It is one of the very few courts in Rajasthan constructed before the rise of Mughals, Now this fort is used for a radio transmitter station. So the visitors can only see the inside of this fort with special permission from the S.P. Palace Complex Below the fort is the large impressive city palace complex its huge gates and tank lined by beautiful, uniform chain of ghats with four pavilions on each side and two at each end. Today max part of the palace is occupied by the Govt. offices, but there is a museum with excellent and extensive collection of royal dresses in beautiful embroidery, stuffed animals, Kashmiri coat work and stone sculpture including 11th century sculpture of Vishnu. There is also a fine collection of traditional instruments including a sitar in the shape of a peacock. A separate exhibition hall has a collection of paintings including a lovely dramatization of the story about Krishna and Radha, featuring gold leaf and miniatures on ivory. Around "ALWAR" Siliserh It lies 20-km southwest of Alwar off the road to Sariska Tiger Reserve, it is a comfortable place, which was built by the Alwar Maharaja Vinay Singh and is located in an exciting location overlooking a tranquil lake. .It is now a hotel RTDCs Hotel Lake Palace. Neemrana Neemrana is a small village, which lies about 75 kms. North of Alwar on the main Delhi-Jaipur highway 2 km. away from this place is the reestablished fortress palace. Dating from 1464, it was from here that the Rajput Maharaja Prithvi Raj Chauhan III reigned. This place has also been converted into a luxury hotel named as Neemrana fort palace. Every weekend between Oct. and March there is a Rajasthani folk music Program. Kesroli There is a hill fort in Kesroli, which is 12 km away from Alwar. It is in Kesroli village, which is run from Neemrana Fort Palace. From the fort you can see brightly clad villagers working in the field. The hotel can arrange for Alwar sigh-seeing also. SARISKA TIGER RESERVE & NATIONAL PARK This place is situated 107 km from Jaipur and 200 km from Delhi, the sanctuary is in a wooded valley surrounded by infertile hills. It covers 800 sq. km of area and has blue bulls, Sambars, spotted deer, wild boars and of course tiger. Project Tiger has been in charge of the sanctuary since 1979. This park contains ruined temples as well as a fort and pavilions built by the Maharaja of Alwar. The best time to visit this sanctuary is between Nov & June. According to the census, there are more then 24 tigers in the Park and more then 300 species of birds in the park. |
