Rajasthan is one of the easiest places to spend money. There are so many colorful arts and crafts, busy bazaars, nice fabrics, miniature paintings and much more. The primary or main rule of purchasing handicrafts is to bargain a lot, as you can get a good idea of what is reasonable in quality and different prices by visiting the Rajasthan state emporium. Because in these shops the prices are fixed and from here you can easily find out the prices of the relative items that you want to buy. So you will come to know how much bargain you should do while purchasing. One should be careful while buying home delivery items because at that time you are given assurance that the home delivery is free of cost, but afterwards you yourself have to collect that item from the main port or airport etc.

Udaipur has a good shop where the 18th century paintings of Mewar have been copied well. These paintings are produced on many different surfaces such as clothes, paper and marble. Udaipur is also famous for jewelry, block-printing fabrics, dhurries (cotton rugs) and wooden handicrafts.

The foreigners are appealed by the heavy folk-art jewelry of Rajasthan. The traditional silver folk jewelry is sold by weight in the bazaars of town and cities. Old silver items such as cigarettes and pillboxes can be purchased from Ajmer and Pushkar, which have got a number of shops selling silver jewelry, designed according to western taste. Pushkar is also a nice place to shop for painted and glass beads, good for making into necklaces. In Pushkar you can also buy silk blouses at cheap prices which are very light in weight. Cassettes featuring traditional or fusion music can also be bought from Pushkar. Carpets with medium-fine quality knots having 150 to 160 knots per sq. inch, costs around Rs.350 per sq. foot.

Jaipur is famous for its smooth and shiny pottery with floral and geometrical motifs. Its Meenakari cover work is also very beautifully crafted. Animals and birds are richly colored in ruby reds, blues, greens and whites. Also in Jaipur, you can buy Sanganeri block-print fabrics, made in the nearby village Sanganer, and other Rajasthani textiles such as Bandhani tie-dye prints. "Anokhi" showroom in Jaipur is a place where printed fabrics in traditional designs are made into fashionable western garments and home accessories such as cushion covers and table cloths. Kota is well known for its sarees, whereas Mt. Abu has plenty of things to be purchased such as carpets and wooden items.

Some tourists bring home a pair of jootis, which is a traditional leather shoe of Rajasthan, with embroidery and curled up toes. Rajasthan and neighboring Gujrat is famous for wall hangings made from segments of fine embroidered fabric with beautiful mirror work. The south of Jaisalmer is famous for its embroidery.

Antiques

Jodhpur specializes in antiques. There are several showrooms in Jodhpur, which have got some excellent antique copies of furniture which can be purchased by giving order for it. These showrooms are very fascinating and are a good place to visit. Articles, which are older then 100 years, are not allowed to be exported from India without an export clearance certificate.
